Sen. Kerry To Offer Alternative To Bush Energy Proposal
Financial Spread Trading The leading Senate foe of the Bush administration's energy plan, Sen. John F. Kerry (D-Mass.), will propose a Democratic alternative today based on higher fuel efficiency standards, tax incentives for new energy sources and a target of 20 percent reliance on alternative and renewable fuels by the year 2020.
Sen. John F. Kerry (Mass.), an aspiring Democratic presidential candidate, yesterday called the administration's decision "an insult" and "a sham" and said it would save "less than 3 percent of the oil we already import from Iraq." Kerry and Sen. John McCain ( Ariz.) had proposed increasing overall standards to 35 mpg by 2015, but the legislation was opposed by the Bush administration and defeated.
Nfl Betting Spread Kerry, a likely presidential candidate in 2004, will seek to tie the administration's energy proposal to the disgraced Enron Corp., according to an advance draft of Kerry's remarks, scheduled for delivery to the Center for National Policy today.
"It should come as no surprise to anyone that the Bush administration would hold an event to tout an initiative called 'Clear Skies' at a facility that will actually maintain its current levels of pollution over the next two decades, " said Sen. John F. Kerry ( Mass.), who is vying to challenge Bush in next year's election.
Commodity Spread Trading The administration has said executives from Enron, now in bankruptcy proceedings, had six meetings with the White House energy task force.
Lawmakers should use that clout to pressure the Bush administration to level with the public about dangers related to pollution at New York City's ground zero, as Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton ( New York) has asked, and to support a proposal by Sen. John McCain ( Ariz.) to add carbon dioxide to the list of conventional pollutants sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides and mercury that the president's Clear Skies initiative proposes to regulate.
Betting Exchange Spread "Old thinking passed through the doors of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue far more often and easily than new thinking," according to the draft remarks. "Exxon Mobil, Enron orChevron enjoyed an access bonanza at the expense of consumers and state-of-the-art environmental technology manufacturers. The process and its results stand as a monument to the difficulty of forcing industry and institutional change."
President George W. Bush received more than $4. year period of this study; his Democratic challenger Sen. John Kerry collected just $332, 000. In 2004, however, the proportions switched dramatically. Kerry collected twice as much as Bush between Jan. 1, 2004 and the end of July$1.6 million versus $824, 000 for the president. Including that late money, Bush received nearly $5.4 million from the leading defense contractors; Kerry drew just under $2.0 million.
Advanced Commodity Spread Kerry has threatened to keep Bush's proposal, particularly a provision calling for drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska, from coming to a vote in the Senate. The plan, drafted by Vice President Cheney's energy task force, has already been approved by the House.
The Democrats for their part have failed to seriously address the crisis of millions of families now locked out of homeownership. In a bubble city like San Diego, for instance, value new home. Accordingly, if 'values' were the basis of the Bush victory last November, they were property values, not moral principles or religious prejudices. In the face of the perverse housing bubble, the Kerry campaign was simply running on empty. It offered no compelling alternative to the status quo.
Online Spread Betting Bush is expected to mention his energy proposal as he travels today to Charleston, W.Va., to speak at a machinery company.
Stock Spread Trading "A comprehensive energy plan, as the president proposed last spring, and the House passed in a bipartisan fashion, is important to our national security and job creation," said Taylor Gross, a White House spokesman. "We are pleased that others now recognize the importance of what the president previously proposed."
Betting Horse Racing Spread Kerry argues that "if we enact the entire Bush energy plan, we will find ourselves 20 years from now more dependent on foreign oil than we are today." He proposes a variety of tax credits and incentives to increase domestic alternative and renewable energy sources such as wind, solar and geothermal to 20 percent of production in 18 years.
Complete Guide Spread Trading Kerry also will call for raising corporate average fuel economy requirements for auto manufacturers "as far and fast as we can," but does not mention a specific target.
Sport Spread Betting The senator also favors tax incentives to speed production of hybrid-fuel engines and to develop hydrogen fuel cells. Kerry will call for "reinvesting" in public transit and rail and promoting biofuels and ethanol as oil alternatives. Ethanol support is a crucial political issue in Iowa, which holds the first caucus during the presidential primary season.
Low Spread Forex Trading Kerry also will suggest "significantly increased" tax incentives for business and home energy efficiency, beyond those now contemplated. He shares the Bush administration interest in making a cleaner form of coal, and he supports federal assistance for a natural gas pipeline from Alaska to the Midwest.
Trading Spread And Seasonals Kerry, who sits on the Senate Finance Committee, will introduce legislation within two months that consists mainly of tax cuts, a spokesman said.
