Luther College to break ground for new fitness center

Financial Spread Trading Luther College has announced it will begin construction of a $2 million Legends Fitness for Life Center this spring. A ground-breaking ceremony will take place on Saturday, April 15, 2000, at 3:30 p.m. The addition to the north side of the Regents Athletic Center is expected to be complete by Christmas 2000.

The Legends Center name honors three retired Luther coaches, Hamlet Peterson, Edsel Schewizer, and Kenton Finanger, long time contributors to Luther. "As time goes by, we hope to honor new legends, " said Doug Nelson, development officer. The Fitness For Life Center was initiated by the late President Jeff Baker who helped complete Marty's Cyber Cafe and helped launch fundraising teams for the fitness center.

According to Thompson, the space was too small and did not have air-conditioning. It was also pointed out during these discussions that Luther lacked adequate cardiovascular machines, such as treadmills and stair-climbers. Thus, the idea for an entirely new addition to the Regents Center was proposed to fill these needs.

Online Spread Betting Funding for this project is nearly complete, with $1.7 of the $2 million needed already raised. Approximately $1.5 million is allocated for the actual construction of the building, $250,000 for the equipment, and approximately $250,000 for the maintenance of facilities and equipment.
